Degree Audit Workshop
The Degree Audit is a very important tool in planning out your progress towards graduation. All students should know how to use this valuable feature in Patriot Web.
Some things we will cover include:
*How to run an audit for yourself
*What an audit looks like for transfer students
*How to run a What-If Analysis if you're thinking of switching to BFA
*Spots in the audit to pay close attention to
Blake Selinsky from the Registrar will also be in attendance to answer any questions that may be above my head.
Hope to see you all there!

Study Elsewhere
Students enrolled at George Mason University are expected to complete their coursework in residence. Exceptions to this policy are considered only on a case-by-case basis. All students must obtain advance, written approval from CVPA Associate Dean before enrolling in classes elsewhere.
If a student’s permanent residence is over 50 miles away from the Fairfax campus, a student may request permission to enroll part-time at an accredited institution near their home during the summer semester. This special permission does not extend into regularly scheduled fall and spring semesters.
In order to have an exception considered, students must have completed the immediately preceding semester with a GPA of 2.000 or higher and be in good academic standing. New Freshmen and new transfer students are not allowed to take courses elsewhere as they have yet to establish an academic record at George Mason.
Reasons NOT considered to be enrolled in courses elsewhere include – but are not limited to – the following:
- Course is less expensive elsewhere.
- Course is closer to home or work.
- Course is offered at a more convenient time to accommodate work or personal schedules, etc.
- Course is an elective or a class not offered at George Mason or through the Consortium.
- Course has been attempted unsuccessfully at George Mason – you may not repeat this course at another institution.
- Class size is smaller elsewhere.
Courses elsewhere that have been pre-approved must be taken for a grade and be passed with a GPA of 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale) or higher in order to be transferred to George Mason. Official transcripts must be sent after completion of the course. Although credit for the course can be transferred, the grade for the course will not transfer.

Learning Services
Fortunately, Mason does not expect you to go at it alone. There are many resources on campus for you to turn to when you need a little help. One of these resources is Learning Services. This office has a tutor referral program, academic counseling, and workshops to help all Mason students be successful. Some of the workshops include: Improving Concentration, Motivation and Goal Setting, Study Strategies, Exam Strategies, and Overcoming Procrastination. Some students may even be interested in earning the Certificate in Academic Skills. This certificate program can help students to study more efficiently, improve your test taking skills, decrease their anxiety about performance and improve their grades.
The programs offered through Learning Services are confidential, free of charge, and open to all Mason students. Stop struggling and start taking steps towards academic success by taking advantage of the programs Learning Services has to offer.

RA positions possible for the new AVT floor in housing
If you live on campus (or would like to) and are looking for a job for fall 2009, consider applying for a Resident Advisor position for the new AVT Living Learning Community (LLC). The LLC is currently being developed for fall 2009 as a floor in President's Park just for new AVT freshmen students. The AVT LLC will be grouped with other LLCs across campus.
Being an RA is a challenging and rewarding job. Good candidates for the position are at least sophomore standing, have a cumulative gpa of 2.5 or higher, are full-time students, and have a clean judicial record.
Not only will you be able to contribute your time and creativity to the first residence hall floor for AVT students, you'll also score some major perks (free room!).
If you're interested in learning more about becoming an RA, visit http://housing.gmu.edu/ra/index2.asp and then email me at sduval1@gmu.edu if you think you'd like to apply and I'll forward your contact information on to the selection committee.
